[Trans] 110219 SM’s Court Verdict Refutation Unleashes A Flood Of Criticism From The Public

On the 17th, the Seoul District Courts dismissed both the formal objection and exclusive contract suspension injunction filed by SM Entertainment against JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu). Regarding this, SM Entertainment immediately released a refutation document stating, “SM and JYJ’s legal battle is still not over,” and “The decision laid down by the Courts on the 17th was made only with regards to the injunction; it does not mean that the exclusive contract between SM and JYJ is invalid.” They continued to add, “We are currently involved in the trial on this issue and a witness examination date has been set for mid-March. We will use only the objective truth and facts to prove the validity of the exclusive contract.”

But SM’s refutation has unleashed a flood of criticism aimed at the entertainment agency from K-Pop fans. Not only are JYJ fans criticizing the entertainment agency, but even the public is seeing SM in a bad light. Most state that SM should see the big picture instead of just focusing on the details. Most of the criticisms against SM can be found on social networking sites.

A Twitterian posted a tweet dripping with sarcasm regarding SM’s attempt to lessen the power of the Courts’ verdict that stated, “Just like their name implies, the company’s SM (SadoMasochism) will continue.” Another user stated, “SM is a Stalker Management company.” Movie critic and professor Shim Young Seop wrote on his Twitter account, “Will SM really follow the Courts’ verdict?” “If SM continues to block JYJ and not follow the Courts’ verdict, couldn’t fans file a lawsuit against SM?”

Another Twitterian emphasized that, “Even the largest boulder will crack and break if water drops continuously fall on it. I believe that the Courts’ decision will not only break the boulder that is SM, but also become the foundation of a more transparent K-pop industry.”

Netizens of various sites pointed out that, “Don’t look at celebrities like mere objects to sell. There is a need to respect their worth and human rights.” They are also raising their voices to say, “The only thing greed brings about is destruction. We hope that SM, a representative entertainment agency of Korea, does not partake in foolish acts that will do nothing but cause the public to distrust them.”

Many are criticizing SM’s outdated patriarchal leadership and pointing out that changes need to be made for a fair and harmonious entertainment industry. The opinion is rising that an effective alternative must be set to move the Korean entertainment industry into a new era.

[Trans] 110217 JYJ Fans Set Their Sights On Subway Advertisements

JYJ fans have set their sights on subway advertisements.

The JYJ fan alliance released detailed plans on putting up advertisements on subway screen doors that included the location of the stations.

According to the released plans, the advertisements will be placed in 21 stations, such as Jamshil, Shinchon, Hongdae Entrace, and Apgujeong over the span of a month starting from March 7th.

JYJ fans have already set up a month-long ‘We Support Your Youth’ bus advertisement that began on January 27th that brought together 120 buses in several major cities of Korea.

Fans pointed out that JYJ have been unable to appear on music programs though they have been staying active through musicals and dramas. They began the advertisement campaign to support the trio who are, according to the fans, having their activities restricted.

The money collected for the project is estimated to have been around 160 million Won and a total of 80 million Won is left after the bus campaign. This amount is to be used for the subway advertisements.

[News] It is time for KFPCAI, who has been blocking JYJ’s activities, to answer

On the 17th, the Seoul Central District dismissed all injunctions filled by SME against the court’s decision to suspend their contract with JYJ, the group formed by Kim Jaejoong, Park Yuchun, and Kim Junsu.

The most noticeable part of the court’s decision is that the courts have also dismissed SM’s request for suspension of JYJ’s contract with CJES entertainment.

At this point, there is an organization that also draws attention along with SM Entertainment. It’s Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industry (KFPCAI). Last October, the federation caused a stir by sending out an official statement asking the national broadcasting stations, cable channels, record labels, music distributors, and the media to restrict JYJ’s activities after their release of “the Beginning” album.

At that time, KFPCAI took issue with JYJ’s “double contract.” Their claim was that although JYJ won their case to suspend their exclusive contract with SM, their contract hasn’t yet been invalidated and thus their contract with CJES in the current situation is unjust.

However, through the court’s recent decision, such claims made my KFPCAI have lost its persuasive power and justification. This is because the courts recognized that there are no problems with JYJ’s “business delegation contract” with CJES, who is currently managing the group.

However, KFPCAI has yet released its official position on the courts’ recent decision. K-pop fans are watching to see if KFPCAI will continue to ignore the public opinion by reasoning that “the legal battle over the problem of the exclusive contract isn’t over” or by reasoning that “the showbiz’s order is being disturbed because of JYJ.”

On such issue, a representative of a certain civic group pointed out that “with the court’s clear-cut decision, KFPCAI most likely knows that reasoning they’ve asserted in the past is weak. It is now time to change the unjust order of today’s show business instead of rashly reacting with our emotions.”

It is now time for KFPCAI to answer.

[TRANS] 110216 JYJ's Medical Examination Controversy? MMA States, "It's Due To Their Overseas Stays"

JYJ (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu) are the center of attention for getting their medical examinations done in their mid-twenties. This is because they should have had their mandatory medical examination done at the age of 19, which was 5 years ago. This has brought on a 'Hallyu Star Special Treatment' controversy.

But according to the Seoul Military Manpower Administration (MMA), the trio's medical examinations have been delayed for legitimate reasons of 'Overseas Departure'.

According to a representative of the MMA, "Saying that we have special treatment for celebrities is absurd. JYJ's medical examination has been delayed due to frequent overseas trips since they were 19. 'Overseas Departure' can only delay the medical examination till the age of 24." He also added, "We do not delay every medical examination for all people who take overseas trips. If you stay in Korea for 60 days or longer between these trips, you are ordered to complete your medical examination. From what I know, this was not the case for JYJ."

Though JYJ got their medical examinations done on the 14th, they do not have any plans of enlisting this year. JYJ are holding a world tour in the first half of this year and Kim Junsu is currently performing in the musical 'Tears of Heaven'.

SUJU in Indonesia's magazine

UPROARING CONCERT “SUPER SHOW 3” SINGAPORE

Super Junior concert “Super Show 3 (SS3)” in Singapore is not only important and most anticipated event for ELF in the Lion Country alone. Hundreds of Indonesian ELF also made this event as a tool to fulfill their dream: meet the 10 Korean male idols. They are Leeteuk, Heechul, Sungmin, Donghae, Shindong, Yesung, Eunhyuk, Ryeowook, Siwon, and Kyuhyun, plus two Super Junior M members, Henry Lau and Zhou Mi. Hope of watching SS3 concert in our Archipelago is getting thinner, thus why ELF Indonesia stormed SS3 in Singapore. Since ticket sale opened in last November, ELF tried hard to find SS3 tickets which is not cheap: 211 and 161 Singapore dollar or about 1,5 and 1,2 million rupiah.
The hardness on getting a ticket was also added with a hunt down of Super Junior members in Singapore. Came all the way to a neighboring country, feels unsatisfied if only watched Suju in a concert. So, ELF did a stalking* preparation aka spying on Suju members’ activities. As usual, airport and hotel is the main target. Thursday (27/1) afternoon, ELF collectively went to Changi International Airport after receiving news that two Suju members – Leeteuk and Heechul – will arrive in Singapore earlier than their band mates. Unfortunately, until their estimated time passed, these two members hadn’t appeared. Same situation happened on the next day, when six Suju members – Sungmin (Yesung)**, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Eunhyuk, and Shindong – were scheduled to arrive in Singapore. Fans who planned on welcoming them at the airport also couldn’t find traces of their idols. Oh right, due to tight shooting schedules, Sungmin and Siwon will catch up on their friends Saturday morning (29/1).

Light accident of Heechul and Leeteuk
SM Entertainment and (Running Into The Sun) RITS as EO have special strategies to hide their artists for security purposes. When fans smelt traces of Leeteuk and Heechul in a van car that was suspected to carry them, they’re immediately chasing it. Because of these chasing fans, van car that Leeteuk and Heechul rode was involved in a 7 cars pile up accident. Fortunately nothing fatal happened. After the accident, to the fans, Heechul sent a message to take care and not to do anything endangered. “Now, if you want to see us, come to the stadium. Everyone is in danger. I don’t want to have bad memory again,” said Heechul. Understandable, Heechul had a bad memory about car accident. In 2006, he had a severe accident after his visit to the funeral of Donghae’s father. His hip bone and leg joint were broken, ended up being hospitalized for 12 weeks. In 2007, severe accident also made Kyuhyun got into critical condition. Fortunately, what had happened in Singapore yesterday only resulting damages at the front of the car.
Suju’s security in the real world is very tight but in the virtual world ELF can easily find out about their idols’ whereabouts. A fan base Twitter account got info, Suju members had crab for dinner. They ate in the rooms and not went down to the restaurant. Through personal Suju member’s Twitter, ELF can get the newest photos plus their comments directly. Aside from uploaded his photo in a hotel room and backstage, from Twitter account @heedictator, Heechul expressed his admiration on super clean Singapore country. “Beautiful Singapore!! Clean Clean!!,” he wrote.

ELF Indonesia exist
As soon as the ticket sale’s open, 5.000 SS3 tickets were sold out in just 1.5 hours. Noticing so many people wants to watch, RITS Singapore decided to add SS3 concert who actually only hold on Saturday (29/1) into two days. Audience who didn’t get Saturday ticket can now purchase the second show ticket which will be held on the next day. But there are also many ELF who already bought the first-day concert ticket and still bought the second-day ticket. Cloudy weather and rain didn’t put down ELF’s spirit who’s gathered around Singapore Indoor Stadium, where the concert were held. Though first-day concert started on 7pm, ELF has been filling the concert location since noon. Aside from mosh pit ticket holders who need to obey first come first serve rule condition, concert location were surrounded with a lot of ELF projects. A group of Singapore ELF held a project by giving out card, photo, fan, and a birthday note to celebrate Kyuhyun’s birthday on last February 3rd. Some other held a banner with Leeteuk’s picture in jumbo size.
Indonesian ELF don’t want to miss the momentum. Indonesian ELF Project group made customized Indonesian ELF t-shirt, a banner with “Indonesia Love Super Junior”, also real gold layer medallion to be given for each of Suju members. For this project, Lia and friends collected money through profit from selling those t-shirts and donation promoted through Twitter. "The donation is not much, only about 2.5 million (rupiah). But we’ve managed to make this project,” said Lia happily. They’re happier later on because they’ve managed to give the medallion and it was worn by Yesung, Siwon, and Eunhyuk during the concert!

Heechul: “I’m Genius!
Bintang watched the concert in day two. Unlike the first one, second concert started earlier, around 16.30 Singapore time. Previously, Suju members held a press conference. Leeteuk as a representative of his friends expressed his happiness to be able to meet their fans in Singapore. When MC said that their concert tickets were sold out within 1.5 hours, Eunhyuk said, later on he wants Suju concert tickets sold out in lesser time. “We’re thankful to all fans for big support. In the future, we’ll work harder to give a great performance, so later on our concert tickets sold out in 30 minutes,” said Eunhyuk. As usual, Heechul’s comment brought laughter. When asked about why he choose to imitate Lady Gaga’s style at SS3 concert, he casually answered, “I’m genius! For Super Show 3 we want something so powerful and influential. So, I came up with 3 partners here: Donghae, Shindong, and Eunhyuk. We dressed up like Lady Gaga and Beyonce and entertained the audience. And I think we made it,” he said. It did worked. We became the witness how funny Heechul and friends and made SS3 concert audience felt millions of rupiah spent was worth it.

Crowded But Orderly
Three hours before the concert, Bintang already in line to the entrance of the concert arena. The queue looked quite long. But we’re happy to see that everything went orderly. The line is neat, so queuing for quite a long time didn’t make us sweating. Sitting on the outside platform of the arena while queuing was also cool because it’s indoor and the rain didn’t get in.
Few minutes to 16.00 Bintang and the whole audience were already inside the stadium. At once, we were amazed when we saw this awesome stage design – more awesome than when Bintang watched “Sushow 2” in Malaysia last year. First few minutes we were presented with sponsor advertisement, up roaring scream were heard when on the big screen came video showing the winner of Suju dance competition. Imagine that, just by hearing their music, without the presence of those ten handsome men yet, it’s already up roaring! The scream is getting louder when the big screen switched to play video of Suju members’ message about planning of Sushow in Singapore.
Hello, we are Super Junior!” they said in the video. “Come on Singapore fans, celebrate happiness with us because finally Sushow is here in Singapore!” said the leader Leeteuk. They’re all cheering. Eunhyuk even jumped madly while pushed and hugged Donghae. “Why Eunhyuk?” ask Leeteuk. “I’m so happy because it’s our first concert in Singapore,” he said with an innocent and funny face. Leeteuk hope the stadium will be full of fans, so they can share happiness altogether. This wish comes true. The stadium filled with ELF loyally enjoying the show from start to finish, which took around three hours.

Filled with Satisfaction, Laugh, and Tears of Joy
The concert really started. Donghae came on stage with sling in the middle of the stage wearing a white suit. Then one by one other members showed up and sang hit song “Sorry Sorry”. Flashes of light and colorful lamps made the situation even brighter. Bintang who’s watching under the stage can feel the excitement. Suju live performance was way better than what we’d expected – plus their faces are very handsome and never got bored to stare at them, hehehe. Choreography by Nick Bass, the man who used to collaborate with Beyonce, Kylie Minogue, Justin Timberlake, and many other famous musicians, amazingly practised by Suju members.
No less than 35 songs were sang by the whole Suju. Each shown their talents. Sungmin with his guitar. Eunhyuk, Donghae, and some other members made our eyes wide open with their astonishing dance abilities. Yesung, Siwon, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Henry Lau, and Zhou Mi who had the opportunity to do solo performances were also shown their beautiful voices. Two thumbs up for Henry who unexpectedly sang “Baby” of Justin Bieber with playing piano at the intro. We’d never guessed that that song was the one to sing – with super lively choreography. Audience can’t help but to sing a long. Can u imagine how cool it is?
No wonder in almost every song, up roaring scream from the audience made the concert sounds much more alive. Started from “Super Girl”, “Don’t Don”, “No Other”, “It Has To Be You”, until “Bonamana”, all were sang out loud by the audience. The most up roaring is a surprise from Lady Hee Hee aka Heechul who dressed up as Lady Gaga ((I) swear Heechul is handsome as a man, pretty as a woman, hahaha) and sang “Poker Face”. This hilarious scene continue with the presence of Shindong, Donghae, and Eunhyuk who danced supersexy with hits “Single Ladies” and “Crazy In Love” by Beyonce. Audience’s emotion goes up and down. There were times when we’re laughing out loud – like when Heechul showed up and said his signature slogan: Singapore clean clean and Singapore it’s my life! There were times when we’re silent and touched, especially during video tribute to beloved best friend, Kangin, who is in military service.
This missing feeling symbolized with Suju members playing violin – only in imagination – with such beautiful melody and cuts right through audience’s deepest bottom of the heart. The message is so spot on; they may not able to touch directly, but Kangin always and will be in their hearts. Then Kangin showed up on the big screen, reaching for his best friends one by one. Situation is heartwarming and friendly. At the end of the video, white heart-shape confetti were spread out and makes our hearts felt tighter. We really miss you, Kangin!

Concert of All Kinds of Super
In short, the title phenomenal held by Suju is not a joke. Bintang is a witness of how they kept their stamina from start to finish. Even though there’re a lot of jokes, their vocal and dance live performance is very special. Each member has their own ways to please the fans. They’re walking and running around here and there to get close to the audience. That kind of hysteria is very hard to put in words. You really have to experience yourself with this watching experience. Superfun, supercool, super up roaring, super touched, super excited. No mistake on calling this as “Super Show”!
Bintang even felt the atmosphere of running around, caught up with audience’s wave who stood near the stage, always on the move to get the best position, wherever the favorite member is. But from all of it, the most memorable moment is to see all kinds of reaction and response of the audience after the concert finished. Even though they’re tired, smile and laughter kept showing in their faces. And don’t be sad, some even got teary eyes because they’ve cried a lot of tears of joy. “Finally the dream to see Siwon came true. Tonight I’m gonna have a good sleep and wonderful dream,” said Wulan, one of Siwon’s fans who can no longer hold her tears of joy. Bintang also has a wonderful dream. Thanks for the great show, Suju! Hopefully we can meet again in Indonesia soon, right. riz/yoci

Singapore Magazine – Super Show 3: The Most Exciting

Super Junior held their official concert on 29 and 30 January at Singapore Indoor Stadium, letting the Singaporean audience catch a glimpse of their charm onstage. This also allowed the fans and idols to interact at a very close distance. Now let us review the most exciting moments of Super Show 3.

Report: Xu Mei Zhu
Photography: Chen Jia Yu (Student Photographer)

The most attention grabbing: Heechul

At the press conference, Heechul was the only member in Super Junior wearing a pair of sunglasses. During photo taking, Heechul definitely stood out by deliberately chosing to pose in a different manner from the other members. In the concert, he played a coquettish Lady Gaga, wearing red heels. He revealed his long and beautiful legs, making the females in the audience sigh. How could his legs be prettier than those of females!

Those who often watch Super Junior on television programs would know that the members like to play and joke around. When one reporter asked Heechul why he played Lady Gaga, he did not wait for the translator and reached for the microphone to reply. With the sentence “I’m genius”, Heechul showed that he did not need to rely on the translator to understand the reporter’s question. This caused the media present to laugh loudly.

During encore for the concert, a fan took out a big red flag, with the word “希” (part of Heechul’s chinese name) printed on it. Heechul was very excited and took the flag from the fan’s hands and ran around the entire stage with much pride.

The most moving: Kyuhyun, Yesung

Kyuhyun sang “New Endless Love” during his solo segment. He was admirable as despite being a Korean, he managed to sing the Chinese lyrics of the song accurately. Moreover, when Yesung performed his version of the title song “It Has to Be You” for “Cinderella’s Sister”, all the fans sang along with him, making Yesung extremely happy. Both their deep voices were very appealing, worthy of being the main vocals.

The one with the most antics: Leeteuk

Leeteuk is indeed the leader of Super Junior. Not only is he eloquent, he is also capable of different antics to please others. When asked about the challenges of wearing heels while dressing up as a woman, Leeteuk joked that his members often placed insoles into their shoes and that it was just like heels. He displayed a sense of humour while openly admitting to their modified heights.

One segment of the concert includes the members dressing up in clothes from other countries and the last to appear was the “rich Dubai businessman” Leeteuk. Other than offering water and towels to the fans, he pretended to be the God of Wealth in line with festivities. He shouted “Do you want money” as he threw red packets. During the “Bonamana” performance, he did not forget to remove half his jacket to reveal his shoulders, electritfying the fans and making them feel faint. After the second concert ended, Leeteuk even took off his shirt and threw it to fans.

The one most likely to cause nose bleeds: Siwon

Leeteuk, Sungmin, Eunhyuk and Donghae have all revealed their chest, abdomen and back during the concert. However, the most impressive body belongs to Siwon and he was very willing to reveal his solid muscles during the concert, allowing the fans feast their eyes. Although the muscles of the other members are not bad, Siwon is still the the most easygoing member. He removed his shirt for both concerts and showed his V-shaped upper body and six packs to the honoured guests, causing the audience to scream.

The most caring: Leeteuk, Sungmin

When Super Junior first came here in June last year for a press conference, Siwon went down the stage to pass the microphone to a reporter who wanted to ask a question. This time for the press conference, as the workers could not find an extra microphone, it was Leeteuk’s turn to walk down and pass the microphone to a reporter. His actions were very caring and kind.

Although the members often interact with the fans, Heechul, Donghae and other members also take photographs of themselves using fans’ cameras. However, the one that left the deepest impression was Sungmin. Other than squatting down to pose for the cameras of fans in the mosh pit, he also constantly had a kind smile on his face, letting others feel good.

The most playful: Siwon, Shindong.

The close relationship between the members naturally includes mischievious pranks. When the second concert was about to have an encore, the members used water bottles to spray water at the fans. Siwon poured the water on the stage and pretended to fall, hoping that the other members would accidentally slip and fall on that part of the stage. Also, he would suddenly sneak attacks on the other members while performing and even try to hug or kiss them. This set the audience’s hearts aflutter. While dressed as a fat version of Beyonce, Shindong suddenly lifted Eunhyuk’s miniskirt, causing Eunhyuk to frantically pull his skirt down, before anything was exposed.

The most multitalented: Sungmin

One moment he’s hanging from a wire, “spewing” smoke from both hands; another moment he’s with Leeteuk, sprinkling confetti while riding on blue balloons in midair; one moment he’s the guitar accompanist for Ryeowook’s solo; and another moment he’s dancing passionately with female dancers and revealing his chest during his solo segment. The normally gentle and quiet Sungmin is extremely busy during the concert, impressing the audience with his different talents.

The one with the most “fluent” English: Donghae

When Siwon, the most fluent in English in the group, said that they would be releasing their new album soon, Donghae immediately responded in English, “4 years later?” causing the fans to be stunned and disappointed. Donghae then comically waved and appeased everyone, “Just Kidding!”

After the concert for the second night ended and all the other members had said their goodbyes and left for backstage, Donghae stood on the stage alone and jokingly spoke in not so standard English, “Give me the music, I am solo this time”. He then quickly ran off the stage, letting the concert end on a perfect note with laughter.

Seungri talks about his album and Big Bang (10Asia Interview) [NEWS]

Writing, composing, producing, recording director. These are the roles Seungri was credited as having taken on in his first mini-album "VVIP." And it is the main reason this is completely different from the first time he tried his hand at singing solo for "Strong Baby." Seungri's singing career took off from a starting point different from that of his follow bandmates G-Dragon or Taeyang who grew under YG Entertainment from a young age and were lauded for their musical talent in various ways. He also always stood where he was told to. So what sort of challenge was his solo album for him? Seungri, who always looks confident on the stage, confessed of his music-making experience he felt fear over.

10: It looked like you did a great job of lifting the mood for the pre-recording of MBC’s “Music Core” today, saying to your fans “You’re here!” and such.
Seungri: Fans are always doing a lot of waiting, up to five or six hours, so I think they’d be disappointed if I leave the stage after giving just my performance. I’d be too if I was in their shoes. And of course they’re there to see me perform but also partly for what they don't get to see off the screen. That’s why I goof around and try to make things fun for them. I’ll also say things like, “It was cold today, right? Well everyone, you have my back, yes? Show me your support!” And that’ll make them feel that they’re close to me.

10: In a way, that may show how much more at ease you are. Do you feel more comfortable working with songs you’ve made yourself compared to when you promoted “Strong Baby”?
Seungri:
I did make the songs easier to sing. For example, with “Strong Baby,” G-Dragon told me to sing it and changed it around when it wasn’t working but the songs in this album are easy to sing because they’re made to fit me. It’s actually hard to focus when they’re not. I think songs become yours when they’re easy and comfortable to sing, although “WHAT CAN I DO” is a bit high-pitched. (laugh) That’s how you’ll have a lot of space to think about your performance and be able to give it change more often. We live in a world where people change their mobile phones every month so people may think my performances are boring if I keep doing the same things every week. But people pay attention to even the slightest changes so I try to change my gestures and choreography every time. Today, the stage was interesting so I used the space more. I was supposed to start my performance in the middle of the stage but I talked with my dancers and decided I would walk toward them from one side and then start dancing with them. We changed this on the spot.

10: I think it’s possible for you to place yourselves so freely because Big Bang is more about playing on the stage rather than dancing straight on time as a group.
Seungri:
We have no limits. We don’t have to dance a certain move or make a certain gesture at a specific point so we’ll take things out if we think they don’t work and use them elsewhere. Such mixing is fun for both the performer and watchers. And it makes things more fun for the dancers as well. The camera director and their crew will also focus more, asking how differently we want to be shot.

10: So basically put, it’s a performance rather than choreography. Your song “VVIP” in particular seems to include such visual elements ? like a fancy show in the U.S. from the 1930s when the Mafias existed?
Seungri:
I also included fireworks going off because that’s the sort of vibe I wanted the song to give off ? like a fancy show in Las Vegas. The song itself is about making you a VVIP if you enter my world so I gave a lot of changes to the song so that it may make the listener feel as if falling into such a fantasy. It started fancy, I rapped, then sang and changed it also like a musical. I tried to contain a lot of such images.

10: I think the drum sound in the intro helped to create that sense of space.
Seungri:
I like Justin Timberlake’s songs and the sound of the guitar in particular in the beginning of “Like I Love You.” That’s the vibe I wanted it to go in when the composer came up with the intro beat for my song and I really like it so we wanted to bring it out more. But I wanted us to use real sound rather than electronic sound. Electronic sound tires the listeners ears in a way. So I went with a sampling from a very famous overseas drummer's drum line.

10: I'm curious to know about the overall process through which you made your album. The credits show that you composed music in collaboration with Choi Feel-kang, DEE.P and BIG TONE.
Seungri: If I wrote and composed all the songs, it would be music that Seungri likes. Music that only I would be satisfied with. Music that I make myself and enjoy listening to.

10: But it’s still a lot of people to work with.
Seungri:
The reason I worked with so many producers and composers was because I was scared. I didn’t know much about music. I think this is the first time since making my debut that I was serious and digged deep into music. G-Dragon usually does all the producer work so before, I’d go into the studio to record my part and when I’m done, practice the choreography, and that’d be it. And I thought putting on a performance and gaining popularity was all there was to this job. But I had no idea how to go about things when I was told to make a solo album. Before, all I had to do was do what people told me to. That’s why I worked with a lot of people. I always worked with three people and constantly asked ‘Is anything weird? Should we change this?’ I had no knowledge.

10: If you were scared, what’s the biggest reason you took part in composing and writing the songs?
Seungri:
It was a matter of pride. At first, our boss Yang Hyun-suk suggested a digital single. Containing only “WHAT CAN I DO.” I don’t know if it was because he liked the vibe to the song but he said we should get a few more songs together and make an entire album. And he hadn’t asked me to make the songs. But I couldn’t readily ask Teddy because I hadn’t been close to him. I felt that he might say, ‘He’s coming to me because he needs me.’ (laugh) I would’ve been nicer to him from about three years ago if I knew I’d get to make a solo album. (all laugh) And I wanted to ask Kush but it was hard to because he’d been sick. And G-Dragon, he was coming back late everyday promoting him and TOP’s duo unit album. So I was thinking, ‘Oh, I’m in trouble. I guess I should do it myself’ when the new producers joined our agency and clicked.

Seungri, "Xiah Junsu was awesome as Mozart" (110208) [NEWS]

During an Interview, Big Bang's Seungri mentioned JYJ member Xiah Junsu, causing a controversy.

Seungri, through a micro-blog "YOZM", mentioned the muscial "Mozart!" which Xiah Junsu took on, and said that the director casted him first, but after listening to the songs, he told the director that "I can't do it."

Seungri said, "It was a song that I will not be able to absorb. Since it was Xiah Junsu, he was able to break it down like that, if it had been me, I don't think "Mozart!" would have existed. Since it is a big hit, it hurts. But if I had took it on, I don't think that I will be able to receive that much attention like Xiah Junsu now."

And "When I saw the scenario of "Mozart!" I immediately had the thought that "I can't do this". It seemed that no matter how I tried, I wouldn't be able to do it. That's why I told the director "I am sorry. This does not suit me. If there is another good production next time, I will think about it again." And after that the director immediately approached Xiah Junsu."

Seungri added, "Originally it was supposed to be Jo Sung Mo. But because Jo Sung Mo Sunbaenim sustained an injury to his leg, he became unable to do it. So the director approached me. After I said that "I am unable to do it", the director immediately went to Xiah Junsu and Xiah Junsu was a complete success."

Netizens which saw Seungri's interview said "It is really rash of him to mention the real name.", "He called Jo Sung Mo Sunbaenim, but why is Xiah Junsu mentioned as "Xiah Junsu sshi"... DBSK debuted first, so he was lacking in thought right from the way he mentioned him" etc... On the other hand, some netizens defended him, "He was honest and frank.", "He didn't have pretenses."
