Fans of K-pop girl group Girls Generation (aka So Nyeo Shi Dae) will get the chance to receive photo cards, posters, and other freebies on March 20 during an event billed, “Oh! It’s Girls Generation Day.”The “Oh! It's Girls Generation Day” will be held to launch the girl group’s latest album “Oh!” that contains the award-winning single title track, which has topped music charts in South Korea.
Universal Records and Girls Generation Philippines, the Filipino fan club of the popular idol group, will hold the event at three record stores in Metro Manila—Astroplus Mall of Asia, Music One Greenbelt and Odyssey Megamall.
Fans who will buy the “Oh!” album on that day will get the chance to select one photo card of their favorite Girls Generation member in addition to the free poster that will be given.
They can also register and become members of Girls Generation Philipppines and get freebies.
Girls Generation holds the distinction of being the first and only female K-pop group to have a No. 1 album in Odyssey record outlets when the group’s mini-album “Genie” was released in November of last year.
Girls Generation dominated the Korean music scene in 2009 with their hit songs “Gee” and “Genie” and romped off with various awards including the prestigious Digital Daesang Award at the 24th Golden Disk Awards.
Fans also anticipated their comeback last January with the new album. Physical and online pre-orders of the “Oh!” album reached 150,000.
“Oh!” sold 30,000 copies on its first day of release. The single “Oh!” topped Korean music charts such as Monkey 3, Melon, Bugs, Cyworld Music and Lunch Box.
With “Oh!,” Girls Generation has so far won five Music Bank K-chart awards and a Mutizen triple crown on the Inkigayo TV program.
The “Oh!” music video also garnered more than 5 million views on YouTube in less than two months.
In the Philippines, the music video also went on to become No. 1 on MYX countdowns.
Girls Generation debuted in 2007 and is composed of Taeyeon, Yuri, Yoona, Jessica, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun, and Sunny.
